iOS 4.1 Jailbreak for iPhone 4 (3GS, 3G), iPod Touch & iPad Available Soon After Launch?

This week Apple will officially roll-out iOS 4.1 for iPhone 4, 3GS and 3G, the iPad and iPod touch. This means that just like with iOS 4.0.2 (which patched the PDF exploit that allowed the iOS 4 jailbreaking), you’ll have to find a jailbreak solution for your Apple branded device.

iPhone 4 jailbreak

Right now we absolutely no clue if the iOS 4.1 jailbreak will be a userland exploit like Spirit or JailbreakMe (the most convenient for users, but hard to find another loophole) or if it the iPhone Dev Team will come up with a bootrom exploit like Blackra1n which will take longer to build but will also last longer.

Speaking of the iPhone Dev Team, member MuscleNerd confirmed that Comex are big into it, with their first attempt being on a userland jailbreak via something he mentions as “trifecta”. @TechXero it’ll be userland JB if @comex can pull trifecta. Else, wait for new HW cycle (also remember: hole!=exploit), he said on Twitter.

While we can’t give you an exact date as to when an iOS 4.1 jailbreak will be available, it’s clear that these guys have their heads on it and it should be out very soon.

Meanwhile, our advice if you’re using a jailbroken or a carrier unlocked Apple device, is to keep away from iOS 4.1 when it debuts on iTunes this Wednesday (September 8th); at least until we have more info on a hack. We’ll keep you posted!
