Apple iOS 4.2 Release Date & Features Now Official

September 2, 2010, By Sanjeev Ramachandran

By now, most of you who own an Apple-branded device know that the Apple iOS 4.1 will be available for download on September 8th . The Apple Live event also saw company boss Steve Jobs telling us that the iOS 4.2 release date has been decided, too. Expect the iOS 4.2 to be officially available from November this year onwards.

Though basically made for the iPad, the iOS 4.2 will be compatible with most of Apple devices. We also hear that it is going to be a free update when it arrives. Once you get your iOS4.2, you will be able to power your tablet with some exciting additions.

And that means, you would be able to bring in aspects such as multitasking – as is the case with the regular iPhone 4. Further still, you will get to spruce up your tablet with wireless printing, folders and AirPlay.

We are told that that you will be able to get access to all of the open apps by just hitting the Home button twice. The folder feature will be such that, you will be able to drag an icon into the folder and make it one of its own.

Besides, the update will give you the printing capability so as to print a page by just hitting the respective key. Apple will also bring in the AirPlay feature via the iOS 4.2 when you need to stream media files from your computer to any Apple device, using Wi-Fi.

Meanwhile, speculations abound on the release date and they hint at a possible delay. With the iOS 4.1 having debuted only now and with lots remaining to be fixed, there is a general feeling that the iOS4.2 may not come at the promised date.

But then, Jobs has made an announcement on the date. Let’s wait for the promised date anyways.
