Samsung Galaxy U Leaks Online? Samsung Galaxy U Specs Place It Below the Galaxy S

August 19, 2010, By Alex Ion

Samsung is blissfully happy with the success of their Galaxy S, but looks like the company is not going to rest on their laurels. According to various rumors online, Samsung wants to appeal to another market segment (those who can’t afford the Galaxy S or the iPhone) with a new Android-powered smartphone in the Galaxy lineup, a device that they’re supposedly announcing in the coming days.

Samsung Galaxy U

While none of the above have been confirmed, if it’s true that a cheaper (entry-level) Samsung Galaxy U is in the works, it’s highly probably that the following will be under the hood:

  • Android (no version given but probably Froyo 2.2 as it’s yet to hit the stores)
  • 3.7-inch OLED touchscreen
  • 1GHz Hummingbird processor (quite fast if mated with enough RAM)
  • 5MP camera with 720p video recording (just enough for social media sites)
  • Wi-Fi 802.11b/g/n, Bluetooth: 3.0
  • 8GB microSD card included (up to 32GB)
  • 1,500 mAh battery

Reports have it that South Koreans will be first to get their hands on the Samsung Galaxy U. Apparently the phone is going to use the J-CDMA network in the country, which means that an international release date is highly possible.

Regarding looks, we’re pretty sure it’s just a slightly smaller smartphone compared to the Galaxy S (just like the Xperia X10 and the Xperia X10 mini, maybe). At least that’s what 119.5×59.6×12.4mm and 131grams would mean. Right?
