Nintendo Wii Sales Numbers Shoot Past 30-Million Mark in the US

Nintendo has sold its 30 millionth Wii console in the US and the company claims that it is the fastest-selling console of all time. The video game console which was released by Nintendo on November 2006 has reached this milestone in 45 months, which beats PS2 in quickness. But Sony’s PS2 still has the record for the most number sold; the console notched up about 140 million in sales.

More than any other video game system in history, Wii has expanded the world of video games to new audiences, Cammie Dunaway, Nintendo of America’s marketing VP, has said in a statement to the media. This milestone, according to him, is another reminder that people want fun games they can play with others – all at a value-minded price.

There also have been reports that Microsoft’s new version of Xbox 360 had surpassed Wii sales in June. Even though PS3 also experienced increase in sales, its numbers fell short of its rivals. Nintendo also released a top ten list of their first party and third party games; Wii Play, Mario Kart Wii, Guitar Hero 3: Legends of Rock and Lego Star Wars: The Complete Saga, to name a few.
