There have been more leaks than actual news about the upcoming Droid 2 superphone from Motorola and Verizon. Best Buy had a few “leaked” dummy units of Droid 2 last week on its shelves and this time, they have also put up pricetags.

It is now confirmed that the Motorola Droid 2 will launch at $199 on Verizon with a new 2 year activation while it would be available unlocked at $599. The release date is rumored to be August 12 but it is still not confirmed. The original Verizon Droid is now listed as “Out of Stock” on Verizon’s website. The funny thing is that officially, not a single word has come out from either Motorola or Verizon about the even the very existence of Droid 2.

If what we know so far is true, the Droid 2 is going to pack some really awesome features. It will replace the original Droid and will come with a better keyboard as well as a faster 1GHz processor. The Droid 2 will come preloaded with Android 2.2 Froyo and promises some 40% boost in website load times. It will pack 8Gb of internal storage as well as another 8GB on included microSD card.
