Motorola Droid Android 2.2 Froyo Update Arriving in September, Milestone Update Confirmed by O2 Germany

August 3, 2010, By Atul Roach

The HTC Evo 4G users are on an Android high today given the fact that the Froyo OTA update has finally started arriving on their handsets, but there is no reason for the other Android handset users to get annoyed. It is now being speculated that the Motorola Droid (also known as the Milestone in some parts of the world) will also get the Froyo update seeded in the not so distant future.

September is being speculated as the month for the update arrival and the source to break this information is O2 Germany’s Twitter account. The update may be appended a month longer, but the good news is that we finally have an expected time frame for it, instead of guessing it all by ourselves.

The Tweet is self explanatory if you can comprehend a bit of German while for the others, it translates to:

Official O2 Froyo Weather Report: Desire middle/end August, Galaxy S middle September, Milestone [!] middle/end September, Flipout & X10 tbd.

What is noteworthy is that the Droid will get updated to Android Froyo after the Galaxy S and the HTC Desire despite making it to the smartphone market before them. Nonetheless, we are glad that the update is due to arrive and we will look forward to an official confirmation from Motorola.
