Verizon Wireless has confirmed many rumored details of Motorola’s Droid 2 smartphone releasing on its network, on its official blog. It has also been rumored that the carrier has fixed August 12 as the release date for the phone.

The Verizon blog states that the Droid 2 will indeed come with Android 2.2 Froyo pre-installed as the operating software and will also offer support for Flash 10.1. The capability of the device to function as a 3G mobile hotspot and the presence of a 1 GHz processor inside the phone has also been listed on the website.

Swype has also been listed as one of the text-input modes on the phone while the physical QWERTY keyboard on the device is being claimed to be “enhanced”. The smartphone has also been said to feature 8 GB of internal memory, while a microSD card of the same capacity will be available with the phone as the external memory, though it can be upgraded to 32 GB.

The launch date for the Star Wars Edition as well as the stock version of the Droid 2 smartphone has been rumored to be confirmed for August 12. The launch of the Droid 2 on that particular day is being viewed as a strong possibility as an Adobe/Android summit is set to take place in the following week, which could prove to be a good platform to announce Flash officially.
