Apple has confirmed that it will sell unlocked versions of the iPhone 4 smartphone in Canada, when it launches the device in the country on July 30. The pricing for the 16 GB version and the 32 GB version of the unlocked iPhone 4 devices have reportedly been fixed at $659 CAD (US $639) and CAD $779 (US $755) respectively.

The unlocked phones will allow Canadians to choose their own mobile network , as opposed to American consumers, who can only use their iPhone 4 on AT&T’s network. Mobile carriers Bell, Telus and Rogers will be offering their network service for the iPhone 4 in Canada.

Customers will have to purchase a SIM card priced between $5 and $10 from any of these networks to use the iPhone 4 in Canada. Additionally, customers will also have the freedom to change their carriers at any point of time and also avoid roaming charges in other countries by inserting a local carrier’s SIM card in the phone.

An 8 GB version of Apple’s previous iPhone model, the iPhone 3GS, is also available unlocked in Canada for a price of $ 549. However, all of the three Canadian carriers are also offering the iPhone 4 as well as the iPhone 3GS on contract for a subsidized price as analysts have pointed out that the high pricing of the device could play spoilsport in changing the smartphone scene in the country.
