Android 3.0 Gingerbread Already Running On Some Nexus One Handsets?

A picture of a Nexus One handset running version 3.0 of the Android OS, dubbed Gingerbread, has appeared online and has sparked off rumors of the Android 3.0 update already becoming available on certain Google smartphones. However, the authenticity of the picture is yet to be confirmed and many online reports have already sent out warnings stating that the picture could have been photoshopped.

The picture shows a Nexus One’s settings page which reveals the firmware version as 3.0. However, while the same page shows the model number of the phone to be a Nexus One, the top and bottom of the phone in the image have been carefully concealed using a tape, which raises questions if it is a different phone with the software tweaked to display incorrect data.

The Android 3.0 shown in the picture could also be a test build of the operating software, as there have been recent rumors stating that other Android versions such as the Android 3.0.1 and Android 3.2 have been found along with Android 3.0, on the logs of a popular benchmarking software called Linpack for Android.

The picture could then also turn out to be a screenshot leaked by a member of the Android Team, which could be in the process of testing initial builds of the OS. What do you think?
