Dell has mentioned on the US product page on its official website that its Streak device will become available for sale in the country in late July. The gadget, which is a cross between a tablet and a smartphone, was earlier rumored to launch in the US on the AT&T network on July 19.

The device, with a 5-inch WVGA screen and a resolution of 800×480 pixels, will pack a QSD 8250 Snapdragon processor from Qualcomm capable of clocking 1 GHz. It will run on Google’s Android platform, but it will only be available with version 1.6 of the operating during its launch. However, the device could get a Froyo update later.

Other features in the Streak include the presence of a 5 megapixel camera in the back and a VGA camera in the front for video conferencing, as well as support for eexternal memory cards of up to 32 GB capacity. It also provides connectivity through Bluetooth, 3G and Wifi networks.

Dell had earlier mentioned that it would position the device as a portable tablet rather than a cellphone though it includes voice capabilities and functions that are traditionally present in smartphones.
