Verizon iPhone 4 Plans May Never Materialize

July 13, 2010, By Sanjeev Ramachandran

Verizon Wireless may never include the iPhone 4 device among its list of handsets, either on account of the reception issues that are currently present in the latest Apple smartphone or due to the fact that the carrier does not require the iPhone 4 to be a part of its network as much as before.

Rumors of the iPhone 4 heading to Verizon have lessened in the recent past, with the last rumor suggesting that the smartphone would be available for sale through Verizon from January 2011 onwards.

However, Verizon has a much better list of handsets in its network today as compared to a year ago. The company’s decision to sell Google’s Android-powered handsets have certainly proved beneficial for the company and today, the carrier’s list of phones includes high-end smartphone devices such as the Droid X.

Verizon, which is the largest carrier in the US, is reputed for its network service. The company may not be too interested in accommodating a smartphone with signal issues as part of its network, as the carrier could also end up being blamed for poor signal reception. In fact, Know Your Cell’s Marin Perez has commented that the absence of the iPhone 4 on Verizon’s network has actually benefited the carrier.

With Android devices fast catching up with the iPhone 4 and even increasing their market share, Verizon may continue to fare well despite the absence of the iPhone 4 on its network.
