The HTC Droid Eris handsets will get an over-the-air update from the mobile carrier Verizon on July 16, according to leaked documents. The updates could become available on all Droid Eris handsets over a period of one week.

The OTA update from Verizon is not the Android 2.2 Froyo update but a new build of the handset’s software that reportedly, will add to the existing features of the handset. The update will add support for Bluetooth headsets from Jabra and provide better speed dial performance.

Droid Eris users will also be able to sync Gmail contacts and will get better audio output once they install the new software update for their devices. There will also be more Exchange options and an enhanced weather app available with the update.

The software update had reportedly been made available for a limited number of Droid Eris phones on June 28. While the new update will be available to all Droid Eris handsets, it could also be the last update being sent by HTC and Verizon to the handset that has already been removed from the list of phones from Verizon’s official website.
