Apple Censoring Forum Threads Related to Consumer Reports’ Negative iPhone 4 Tests

July 13, 2010, By Radimir Bobev

Recently, Consumer Reports did some tests with the iPhone 4, and the results were all but captivating – the testing showed various problems with the device, and it proved that customers weren’t exaggerating in their disappointment with the iPhone 4’s quality. Surely enough, you’d expect to be able to go over to Apple’s forums and discuss this with fellow Apple users, right? Wrong.

If you post a thread on Apple’s forums which touches the subject of those tests in any way, you can expect to see it deleted in a matter of hours (or minutes if a moderator happens to be online). There hasn’t been any official explanation on the strange behavior either. You can see screenshots of some of the threads before they were deleted, thanks to Bing’s cache. We’ve grown more or less used to this sort of thing from Apple though – it’s not like it’s the first time they’ve censored their forums.

The tests by Consumer Reports revealed some rather frightening things, including the fact that the antenna problem which sparked so much controversy, could actually lead to the loss of Internet connection as well as losing some of the quality of your calls.
