ASUS’ Eee PC 1215N netbook has been reported to start shipping in the US by the 23rd of August. However, the cost of the gadget is yet to be officially announced, though it is rumored to become available at a price below $500.

The 1215N comes with a 12-inch screen and a dual-core Atom D525 processor from Intel capable of clocking speeds of up to 1.8 GHz. NVIDIA’s Ion discrete graphics processor will also be a part of the netbook along with the company’s graphics switching technology called Optimus that shifts between discrete and integrated graphics to provide for an extended battery life.

Other features on the device include the HD widescreen display with 1366×768 resolution and an HDMI out port for connecting the HDMI cable to watch HD videos on an external display. USB 3.0, Bluetooth 3.0 as well as WiFi 802.11n is also present in the netbook. 500 GB of ASUS WebStorage space as well as a choice of either a 320 GB or 250 GB hard disk is also available with the 1215N.

The Eee PC 1215N netbook is being seen as the proper Ion 2 gadget as the ASUS Eee PC 1201PN does not feature NVIDIA’s Optimus technology while the Acer Aspire One 52g netbook, which was supposed to be powered by Ion 2, has been cancelled before its launch.
