Seems like Samsung Galaxy S might soon become the most globally popular handset after the famed Apple iPhone versions. Galaxy S is set to arrive with four of the biggest US carriers and one of them (indeed two), AT&T, has even gone ahead and given the official nod-ahead. Announced today, AT&T users will be able to make the Samsung Captivate (AT&T specific version of the Galaxy S) their own, come July 18. As expected the Galaxy S version will be priced at $199 on contract without any rebate requirements.

If you remember, it wasn’t long back that we talked about Big Red’s plan to introduce the Fascinate from Samsung, which is again a version of the Galaxy S.

AT&T users will be excited about this new top-notch Android addition which is also in line to receive Android 2.2 Froyo update after the release.

The users will get to choose between a top of the line Android smartphone on one side and the Apple iPhone 4 on the other. What is also noteworthy is that the Captivate will be the first ‘big’ Android device which AT&T has ever sold.

Apple may see partially depleted sales of the iPhone 4 after July 18, once the Captivate goes public. The other two US carriers to introduce the device in the near future will be Sprint with its Epic 4G, which will be the only Galaxy S variant to support 4G speeds.

Talk about T-Mobile, the carrier will get to market ‘Vibrant’ which will again be a carrier specific version for T-Mobile and if the grapevine is true, Vibrant will be the first Galaxy S US variant to go public, prior to the Captivate as well.
