HTC Promises Android 2.2 Froyo Update by Christmas (Includes Droid incredible, EVO 4G, the Legend or Desire)

July 7, 2010, By Sanjeev Ramachandran

HTC’s Global PR and Online Community Manager Eric Lin has revealed that the company will make the Android 2.2 Froyo update available for all of its smartphones, including the EVO 4G, Droid Incredible, Desire and Legend, before Christmas this year.

Eric has mentioned that the recent delay in sending the Froyo update to different handsets has occurred due to the time taken to port different applications to Froyo and test the applications to check if they perform well on the operating software as well as the hardware.

However, certain HTC smartphones could even get the Froyo update well before December. The HTC Desire has already been rumored to be receiving the update in August whereas the Legend and Wildfire handsets were also earlier reported to expect the Froyo update in Q3 2010.

Eric has also said that the process of creating the Android 2.2 updates for Android 2.1-based HTC phones is easier than creating Android 2.1 updates for Android 1.5-based handsets. So, the huge delay by HTC in releasing Android 2.1 updates might not take place in case of the Android 2.2 Froyo update.

Eric has also spoken briefly about version 3.0 of Android called Gingerbread, saying that it could be launched in Q1 of 2011.
