Acer Aspire One D255 Netbook Announced, Specs Include Atom N550 CPU

If you’re in the market for a new netbook but expect a bit more from your machine, the new Acer Aspire One D255 is probably what you’re looking for — as we’re hearing that’s the first Acer netbook to feature the new Atom N550 dual-core processor that clocks at 1.5GHz and has 512KB L2 cache.

Similar with the newly announced Acer Aspire One D260 that made a debut just a month ago during Computex, the Aspire One D255 comes with minor design tweaks – it dropped the chrome accents and glass splitter.

Regarding the N550 processor, we’re hearing that sometimes it could be seen as a drawback, since it lacks the Intel Turbo Boost feature. Basically if you’re using an application that doesn’t know how to make use of both cores (Adobe Flash & Mozilla Firefox are just a few names that come mind right now), you’re looking at a slightly slower netbook.

The new Acer Aspire One D255 hasn’t been confirmed by the company yet, but we’re expecting it to debut with 2GB of RAM, a 250GB hard drive and probably runs Android OS.

No word on pricing or availability just now.
