Sony PlayStation 3 Software Update v3.40 Now Available for Download; Update Includes PlayStation Plus

Sony has released the new version of the software update for the PlayStation 3 gaming console. The update, which is called version 3.40 of the software, includes the PlayStation Plus service that allows users to access exclusive content on the PlayStation Network at reduced prices.

Software update version 3.40 for the PS3 includes additional features for photos and videos. The new update allows users to share their pictures with other users on the PlayStation Network. They can also view and comment on photos uploaded to the Picasa Web Album and Facebook.

Videos on the PS3 can also be edited and uploaded to websites such as YouTube of Facebook, thanks to the software update that integrates a video editing and uploading feature in the Xross Media Bar (XMB) in the gaming console.

PlayStation Plus, the service that is available with the new update, allows users to purchase games from the PlayStation Network at half price and sample select full titles for a period of one hour. Subscribers to the service will also be able to access beta versions of upcoming features earlier than others.

Other features on the new update include the ability to assign a rating, out of five stars, for previously purchased games on the PlayStation Network. The PS3 is also programmed to turn itself off after being inactive for 2 hours, in order to conserve power. A dedicated app on Facebook for PSN users has also been launched along with the PS3 software update.
