Motorola Droid To Get Android 2.2 Before Droid X Does

The Android 2.2 Froyo update will reach Motorola’s Droid handset before it becomes available for the company’s latest offering, the Droid X, according to a new leak. The  Droid will get the Froyo update along with Flash Player 10.1 in late July whereas the Droid X will get the over-the-air update in late August.

The Motorola Droid runs on a stock version of Google’s mobile operating system which makes it easier for the company to send the Froyo update to the Droid before it is sent for the Droid X, which features a customized firmware.

The Droid X was earlier rumored to run on Android 2.2 during its launch. However, it was mentioned during the official announcement of the phone that the device would run on version 2.1 of Android when it starts shipping on July 15.

However, the leaked upgrade dates may not be final and the actual update could be delayed. Motorola is yet to announce the dates for upgrading its first generation phones with Android 2.1. There was also a considerable delay for making the Android 2.1 update available for the Droid, which originally shipped with Android 2.0.
