New HTC EVO 4Gs Feature New Screens From Different Brand

June 24, 2010, By Sanjeev Ramachandran

Newer units of the HTC EVO 4G handset that have been coded “003” have been reported to feature new screens as compared to the older units coded “002”. The new screens have been built by Epson while the screens on the older units were manufactured by Novatel.

The new screen can be easily identified when the old and new models of the handset are held beside one another. However, the newer screens have been reported to have an inferior contrast ratio making the screen look less rich in color in spite of the increased brightness.

A row of dead pixels was also reportedly found on the new HTC EVO 4G handsets. The smartphone has been facing other screen issues as well, including the separation of the screen from the body due to the failure of the glue to hold the front glass in its place.

The EVO 4G features a TFT display as an OLED display cannot be included in the device due to its 4.3-inch screen. Users of the handset can check the version of their models (whether 002 or 003) by clicking on the Settings>>About Phone>>Hardware Information>>Hardware Version.
