The widely anticipated latest version of the Apple’s OS called iOS4 is set to release today. iPhone and iPod Touch users are advised to backup their data manually by downloading version 9.2 of iTunes and right clicking on the phone in the iTunes app and then clicking on backup.

The manual backup will allow users to save time on creating backups once the iOS4 is downloaded. The iOS4 brings new features such as multitasking that will enable users to run multiple tasks at the same time. Though this feature might be limited to select apps only, it will allow other apps to be paused and suspended in the background.

The iOS4 will also make it easy to switch between apps owing to its fast app switching features. The apps can also be placed into folders on the iOS4 to make the home screen look clutter-free and spacious.

Apple has introduced a new mail app in the iOS4 with the unified inbox feature that displays all of the email in different inboxes in a single account. The iBook app for the iPad device has also been included in the iOS4 that will allow iPhone users will be able to buy and read e-books on their phone.

The iOS4 will enable users to choose and replace their backgrounds for the iPhone devices as well. It also includes other features such as the ability to resize images before sending them as emails, a character count feature for text messages, SMS search feature to look for a particular SMS in the inbox, spellcheck and much more.

The iOS4 with all the features will be available for the iPhone 3GS and third generation iPod Touch devices while iPhone 3G and second generation iPod Touch devices will get the iOS4 without the multitasking feature. The iPad tablet will only get its iOS4 update later this year.
