Many of the features that were expected to be present on the Motorola Droid 2 handset from Verizon have been confirmed by a Gizmodo tipster who recently got some hands-on time with the handset.

The device ran on the 2.1 version of the Android OS accompanied by the MotoBlur user interface but it might probably feature Android 2.2 Froyo during the time of launch without any skin.

The Droid 2 does feature a 5 megapixel camera similar to the one present in the Droid 1, but the camera has been reported to function must faster than the previous version. The Droid 2 is also similar in size to the Droid 1 but has more curves and is much smoother.

The keyboard layout on the Droid 2 is also new with the directional pad that was present on the Droid 1 being replaced to make the keyboard wider. There is no lip on the right side of the device when it was kept open which allows for easy typing. It also features a separate key on the lower left for voice commands.

A 1 GHz processor has also been confirmed to be part of the Droid 2 phone. However, it could still not be confirmed whether the new phone will actually be named ‘Droid 2’ or whether it will have a different name.

The Droid 2 has been reported to be released in the next few weeks and could coincide with the launch of the Droid X in the July-August period.
