Unlocked units of the Legend handset from HTC have become available with UMTS bands that allow for connectivity to 3G networks in North America. These unlocked HTC handsets have been priced at $498.

The unlocked handsets are equipped with 850/1900 UMTS bands that allow the phone to access the internet through AT&T’s 3G network in the US. The device has a 3.2-inch capacitative touchscreen AMOLED display with an HVGA resolution of 320×480 pixels.

It runs on the Android 2.1 Éclair OS combined with HTC’s Sense user interface. A 5 megapixel autofocus camera is present on the back of the handset along with a flash. The functions of the phone are powered by a 600 MHz processor. It has a RAM capacity of 385 MB with an internal memory of 512 MB. External memory can also be added to the phone through the microSD card slot that supports cards of up to 32 GB capacity.

Besides 3G, users can also connect to the internet on the phone through WiFi and GPRS that are present in the device as well. The HTC Legend also allows for Internet sharing with other devices through its USB 2.0 port.

Similarly, unlocked units of the HTC Desire with USA 3G have also become available at the same price as the unlocked HTC Legend. However, the Desire will become available at a cheaper price when it releases in the US officially through specific network carriers.
