Valve’s Big Surprise to be Source Engine 2?

June 9, 2010, By Radimir Bobev

There’s been a lot of hype around Valve’s recent announcement that the Portal 2 event at E3 has been canceled. As usual, plenty of speculation was going around as to what could’ve caused this, and what the new event would be. Some think it’s Episode 3, others – that we’ll see IceFrog’s project (the author of DOTA, who recently got hired at Valve).

However, an anonymous source from VG247 has stated that the surprise is something much greater than that – an all new Source Engine 2, which would possibly be demonstrated alongside Half-Life 3. While Gabe Newell, CEO of Valve, did recently confirm that the revelation won’t be Half-Life 2: Episode 3, he did not say nothing about a possible HL3.

The Source Engine was demonstrated first in June 2004, using Counter-Strike Source and Half-Life 2 as demonstration games. Ever since Valve canceled that E3 event last week, a lot of fakes have been surfacing, in the forms of pamphlets and other things – so take this with a pinch of salt.
