Motorola FlipOut Android 2.1 handset now official

Motorola today announced their latest MOTOBLUR handset touting Android 2.1, the Motorola FlipOut. The new phone looks rather cool in a small square shaped form factor and will be released in a choice of seven colors targeting the young social networking crowd.

The FlipOut features an innovative square pivot shape which pops out a rather compact full QWERTY keyboard which includes a separate row for numeric keys. FlipOut also sports the usual MOTOBLUR customizations like social networking integration along with other features like customizable homescreens and live wallpapers.

When it comes it hardware, the FlipOut does pretty decently with a 2.8-inch QVGA display, 512 MB of internal storage and comes preloaded with a 2GB microSD card. It also has a 3MP camera with digital zoom and Kodak Perfect Touch technology. FlipOut will also have access to Google’s Android Market for access to the huge collection of apps available on the platform.
The new handset will be available Europe from Q2 2010 in color choices which include Licorice, Fairway Green, Raspberry Crush, Brilliant Blue, Poppy Red, Saffron or White. No pricing information has been revealed.
