T-Mobile Samsung Behold II Android 1.5 Handset Not To Be Upgraded Beyond Android 1.6

As much as the Apple $99 ATV news was a shocker, the news of Samsung Behold II not to be upgraded beyond Android 1.6 has stunned all the Behold II owners. By now, T-Mobile subscribers using the Samsung Behold II were expecting an Android Eclair or at least Android 2.0 upgrade, but Samsung and T-Mobile have clarified that the Android update will only be limited to version 1.6. Indeed, the update is now available for d-load and that is the ‘last’ good news for the Behold II owners.

This is a very strange announcement as Android 1.6 is a pretty old version of the Google OS platform as the world is now talking about Android 2.2 on mobile devices.

Since Behold II runs on 1.5, the Android 1.6 upgrade will ensure the T-Mobile subscribers can now use features like the Google Maps Navigation, Google Voice Search capability and quick search box for Android.

The update will also help bring in improvements for the Bluetooth device and the media player on the handset along with making the Skype keyboard available.

T-Mobile would have already realized that this news will almost put an end to the sales of the Samsung Behold II and therefore this may be an intentional step targeted at introducing better Android devices in the future, Motorola Motoroi being one probability.
