Sony are gearing up for the release of their e-book reader to the whole world, as was announced yesterday – according to the company, they’ll be releasing the Reader digital book device later this year, starting from the Asian market (sort of) – Japan, China and Australia. Afterwards, it will spread out through Europe.

According to Sony, they’ll make the best use they can of their current retailers, publishers and distributors to ensure that the Reader is distributed as widely as possible, and to ensure that consumers can easily access content in their own language from their region. Distribution has proven to be problematic in this type of devices in the past.

Sony seem to have big expectations for the Reader’s success, especially when it comes to the Asian market. According to researchers from Nomura Holdings, Asia was currently the fastest-growing e-book market for last year, with over $500 million in sales registered just in Japan. According to a prediction by DisplaySearch, china should become the largest worldwide consumer of e-book readers by 2015.
