MSI GUS (Graphics Upgrade Solution), First External Graphic Card for Laptops

May 27, 2010, By Atul Roach

MSI is a top-notch brand name when it comes to computers and therefore the company developing its first ever external graphics card is important news. MSI dubs its external graphics card as Graphics Upgrade Solution which is abbreviated as GUS and the device basically comprises of an MSI Radeon HD 5670 1GB graphic card.

It is a great alternative for laptops that normally come with low-end graphics cards which are otherwise a sad option for enjoying games. Modern games as it is require high-end configuration including a powerful graphics processing chipset and an external solution is never a bad idea.

GUS can be connected to your lappies via an ExpressCard slot and the device can be inserted with graphics cards other than the Radeon 5670, but the power limitations will restrict users to only use the 1GB Radeon option.

What is also important to note is that this device consumes more bandwidth than the other ExpressCard devices normally do. The MSI GUS is available at a starting price of $169 while the max you’ll end up paying is $229.

You guys will be pleased to know that MSI is committed to developing more external graphic cards in the future and a device based on USB 3.0 will enter the market in the future.
