Red Dead Redemption has gained the top spot in a ranking of games in the UK, done on the basis of their sales. The game was released just a week ago on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 platforms by game developers Rockstar.

The game based on and named after the upcoming 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa, created by EA Sports fell from its previous top spot to occupy second place on the chart while Just Dance from Ubisoft rose from fourth place to take third place on the sales chart. Just Dance’s previous fourth place was now taken by Wii Fit Plus from Nintendo which increased its position by five spots from its previous ninth rank.

The placement of Red Dead Redemption at the No.1 position in the UK sales chart marks the first time that a multi-platform game has earned this achievement for Rockstar since GTA IV did so in 2008. At the time, GTA IV had posted record sales figures for any game in the UK in the first week of its release.

Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands failed to do as well as expected in the UK and has been placed in the ninth position in the ranking, which could be a disappointment for its developer Ubisoft.
