Elgato EyeTV HD DVR Features Full-Blown Apple Mac Support

May 24, 2010, By Radimir Bobev

The Elgato EyeTV HD DVR is a convenient solution for watching HD cable, satellite TV, and other premium services to Apple products, such as MacBooks, iMacs and iPods – however, it comes at a considerable price in terms of mobility.

The device features inputs for HD sources, along with an S-Video and composite cable connection (for your standard definition needs). You can also plug it directly into a satellite/cable box and you can record movies and shows in full HD.

The bad news is, mobility is somewhat of an issue here – the device depends on a cable box to use as a TV tuner, as well as a Mac to use as a hard drive. At least you get a remote control so that you can have some comfort in watching your shows – though still, be warned that you’ll have to do a lot of fiddling with cables and pre-planning to get this baby running in your home.

If you’ve got an iPad or iPhone, you can even select the appropriate encoding options and have videos converted in suitable formats for those devices, as well.
