iPhone 4G vs HTC Droid Incredible: The Popularity Contest

May 21, 2010, By Sanjeev Ramachandran

The competition between the iPhone and Android platforms is known to everyone. Android has been one of the leading competitors to the iPhone as a variety of handsets are released on the Android platform one after the other. Gartner, a research firm, even pointed out that Android sales in North America had recently exceeded that of the iPhone.

One of the most popular Android handsets is the Droid Incredible from HTC. The popularity enjoyed by the device is such that Verizon is finding it difficult to maintain its stock of the phone. The HTC Droid has an 8 megapixel camera in the back along with dual LED flash. It has a 3.7-inch AMOLED screen with WVGA resolution and has a 1 GHz Snapdragon processor under the hood. But the popularity of the HTC Droid Incredible, which is already availably for sale, is being threatened by an iPhone that is yet to hit stores.

Yes, we are speaking of the iPhone 4G that has received huge coverage since pictures of the device were leaked online by Gizmodo. The specifications of the device have speculated upon a lot but we now know that the iPhone 4G is likely to have an LED backlit 3.5-inch glossy widescreen with multitouch capability and IPS and FFS technology. It will have a resolution of 960×640 pixels and an oleophobic coating to prevent fingerprints from being visible on the device.

The iPhone 4G is also tipped to have a 5 megapixel autofocus camera in the rear and a 2 megapixel camera in the front. The camera in the back is capable or recording HD video of 720p, while the one in the front has support for Apple’s iChat. The phone is powered by the A4 1GHz SOC processor from Apple.

Such features in the upcoming iPhone 4G suggest that it could take on the Droid Incredible as well as the HTC Evo 4G that is due for a June 4 release. Although the actual results can only be known when the iPhone 4G releases on its rumored release date during the 2010 WWDC event, what do you think will be the result? Will the iPhone 4G be more popular? Or will the Droid Incredible be able to retain its position?
