Be it for online purposes or for a photo album you create at home, anyone who wants to make their pictures look perfect should know a thing or two about Photoshop. And while are it, we bet you know that adding borders on a picture can add a much nicer touch for your shot.

Yes, it might seem tough in the beginning but with a little help, you can do it yourself — so here’s a step-by-step guide for how to add a stylish border to a picture in Photoshop.

1. As you’d expect, first you need to start Photoshop and open the picture you want to edit.

2. Open the “Select” menu and click on the Select All option. You can also use the select tool to choose the area for the border around a certain section.

3. In the same Select menu you’ll find the “Modify” and then the “Border” option. Why do you need it? The border option will help you create different styles of borders for your picture — edit pixel size of the border carefully as it actually determines how thick the border will be.

4. Most people do not want to settle for the classic old black to border their images which is why you can choose your own colors (locate the color palette on the left-hand side of the screen). Click the one you like and press OK, the color will up the entire border. Don’t like it, you can always Undo and choose another color.

5. Select Fill from the Edit menu. In the dialog box, choose the options to apply to the border.

Now that you’re ready to add a border to your photographs, here are a few things you should keep in mind:

  • A bigger pixel size will mean a thicker border; you can change the numbers till you find the perfect match.
  • If you want a splattered border, simply select the dissolve tool from the options button available in the fill command.
  • After the picture has been edited as per your requirements, you should save it under a different name. This will ensure that the original picture is intact.
  • You can also choose different looks for your border by choosing different options by selecting Fill in the Edit menu.

Photoshop is not that hard to master (for easy things like adding a border to a picture) and with a little bit of practice you’ll be able to do it easily, in no time.

Giving a nice border to your picture will help get them a nice effect. Try these simple tips and you will be able to get some nice borders that will make your shots look even better. How did they work for you guys?
