The official Twitter app for iPhone OS is slowly becoming available on app stores worldwide. Atebits, the company that created the Tweetie app, one of the many Twitter apps available, was recently purchased by Twitter. The effect of the purchase was soon seen within a few weeks as Twitter released an official app for Android phones to connect to the microblogging site. The official app created by Twitter for the iPhone OS is tipped to be an improved version of the Tweetie app, which was in its 2.0 version before it was acquired by Twitter.

The changes that may be present in the official app for iPhone, also being called the Tweetie 3.0 app, are still not clear. The Tweetie icon has however, been unchanged. The iPhone Twitter app is expected to be free as compared to the Tweetie, which was priced at $2.99. The Tweetie 2 app was also pulled down from the app store recently, though users can still use the app till the end of June. Authorization for the official Twitter app for iPhone is also necessary and can be done by users in the “Connections” page under the “Account settings” tab in Twitter. The app has already become available in certain app stores in other parts of the world though the app is tipped to become available in app stores in the US at midnight.
