HTC Wildfire In-Depth Review: Features, Specs, Price, Release Date (Press Release From HTC)

May 18, 2010, By Intermaggio

Yesterday, we shared the HTC Wildfire Release Date, and gave you a quick rundown of what it is and why you should care. Today we have a bit more information for you direct from the slides of a press release that have been circulating recently.

This phone is expected to launch in European markets by June 14th of this year to compete with the summer market, and here’s the low-down on what it’s got in store.

  • Dimensions: Approximately 106 x 60 x 11 mm
  • OS: Android 2.1
  • Screen: 8.1 cm Capacitative Touchscreen
  • Resolution: 320 x 240
  • Camera: 5 Megapixel with LED Autofocus (Presumably with video capability)
  • 512 MB Flash Memory
  • 384 MB RAM
  • 802.11 b/g
  • Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR

  • micro SD Compatible
  • GPS
  • 1,300 mAH Battery
  • Accelerometer
  • Digital Compass
  • 3.5mm Audio Jack
  • FM Radio
  • Qualcomm MSM7225 520MHz processor
  • HTC Sense: App Sharing, Friend Stream, Footprint, Microsoft Exchange Email, Google Modible Services, Twitter, Facebook, Plurk, FlickR

Now let’s be honest- there’s nothing terribly exciting about these stats, in fact the 320 x 240 resolution is a bit disappointing. But here’s the deal: this phone hits the UK and Asian markets right at the beginning of summer, and riding on the success of the HTC Incredible. What’s impressive about this smartphone is that it is expected to be included free with a contract.

Let me repeat that: The HTC Wildfire is expected to be FREE with contract.

Now as someone who’s last phone was a Nokia 6030, which came for free with my contract from AT&T over four years ago (amazingly, the thing still runs), I have the perspective to say this would be a bit of an upgrade from your everyday free cellphone included with the plan.

What do you think? This thing has some decent stats and could certainly be the next big budget smartphone. Would you buy a contract?
