Sprint HTC EVO 4G release date and pricing revealed

The release date and price for the HTC EVO 4G, which incidentally is one of the two smartphones to be released by Sprint on its WiMax network this year, have been revealed. The smartphone will be available through Sprint at the price of $199 along with a two-year contract from June 4 onwards.

The buyer can get a discount if the phone is purchased from Best Buy, though its full price is $450.

The HTC EVO 4G has a 4.3-inch touchscreen with additional features such as pinch-to-zoom. It combines HTC’s Sense user interface with Android 2.1 firmware to run its applications and programs. The device is enabled with WiFi 802.11 b/g/n and is capable of providing WiFi connectivity to eight other WiFi-enabled devices in its range due to the 3G/4G Mobile Hotspot feature.

The processes on the phone are powered by a 1GHz Snapdragon processor from Qualcomm and has 1 GB of ROM and 512 MB of RAM. An 8GB microSD card is available with the device along with a 1500mAh battery .


Other features on the phone include Qik video sharing, 8 megapixel camera in the back with autofocus and LED flash, 1.3 megapixel camera in the front, HD video recording capability, 3.5 mm stereo headphone jack,  HDMI output, Bluetooth 2.1 and Sprint Navigation for GPS facilities.

Sprint will launch another phone from Samsung later in the year on its WiMax network called Clearwire. The HTC EVO 4G will be the first 4G phone to be launched as the release date of the iPhone 4G has been delayed.
