The Sony PSP 2 is causing a ruckus. The unit hasn’t even officially been announced yet, but people are already speculating on just what this device will bring to the table. We’ve got a rundown of some of the alleged features, as well as a possible release date.

In a sea of great news, let’s start with the bad news first: it looks like the PSP 2 will NOT be launched by E3, but rather, will probably launch early 2011. However, this isn’t 100% confirmed, so we can surely hope!

The PSP 2 looks to be an incredible bit of technology- it’ll have forward and rear-facing cameras, a touch screen, and the trademark PlayStation button layout. But what’s really striking is the hardware.

If the rumors are confirmed, the PSP 2 will have a 4-core Cell CPU. For perspective, the PlayStation 3 has an 8-core Cell CPU. Picture the power of a PS3 in the palm of your hand. Are you getting hot yet?

The PSP 2 is also rumored to run on 3G, rather than depending on WiFi like the PSP go- which means that you could take this thing just about anywhere and still have web access.

Are you as excited about this thing as we are?
