HTC EVO 4G Not Getting Flash Support Anytime Soon, Sprint Says

May 14, 2010, By Sanjeev Ramachandran

Adobe Flash may not be available on the HTC EVO 4G smartphone that is scheduled for release through mobile carrier Sprint from June onwards. Sprint had mentioned earlier, along with details of the phone and its launch dates, that the phone would feature Adobe Flash which would allow users to view embedded content such as videos and animation. However, a specification and feature sheet for EVO 4G says that the phone will function using the Android 2.1 operating system.

It is common knowledge that the Android 2.1 firmware does not support Flash.

Sprint has advertised Adobe Flash as due to be present on the HTC EVO 4G but it will not be true at the time of its launch, unlike Apple which has openly refused to use Flash in their products.

So when will users be able to view Flash content on the EVO 4G? Another version of the Android OS, the Android 2.2 will be able to support flash once its update, the Android 2.2 Froyo is talked about at Google I/O.

Sprint took a long time to release its Android 2.1 updates for the Samsung Moment and HTC Hero smartphones. So the time taken for an Android update for the EVO 4G that supports Flash is also expected to be long.
