See the Nokia N8 Hands On!

Some people are lucky to live in London, near one of Nokia’s headquarters – take the Engadget staff, for example, who’ve managed to get their hands on an actual prototype for the upcoming Nokia N8. According to them, the device surpasses some expectations, but also features some questionable design elements.

Sadly, we can’t tell you anything about the Symbian^3, which apparently wasn’t ready for showcasing yet. The device was reportedly very lightweight though, to the point that the people examining it were wondering if the battery is actually inside. The physical curves of the handset also got a lot of praise, allowing the phone to slide into your pocket smoothly.

According to Nokia, a great deal of work has gone into designing the device’s physical aspect – but there’s a bad side to this. One of the things that had to be sacrificed to get the “ultimate” shape and design (and weight) was the replaceable battery – the phone just has an integrated cell. According to Nokia’s Head of Design Marko Ahtisaari though, the sacrifice will be more than justified.
