Motorola rumored to have acquired Azingo – possible OS plans in the works

May 5, 2010, By Thomas Antony

News and rumors originate from strange places. This time its from some changes in employment status on LinkedIn. If it is any indication, it looks like Motorola may have acquired mobile operating system company Azingo. While not a major player in the market, Azingo Mobile 2.0 OS is a linux based system that looks capable enough, complete with a Web-kit based browser, web runtime, Flash runtime and a full set of developer tools.

The news of the possible acquisition comes after recent comments from Motorola co-CEO Sanjay Jha about how they feel that owning their OS is important ( which is not the case with Android which is currently being used by Motorola ). Azingo Mobile 2.0 certainly seems a viable and very capable option for them. Google and Motorola are still in a very strong partnership. So we will have to wait to see how this plays out.
