AT&T Preparing for the iPad and the New iPhone, Add Micro-SIM Cards

April 29, 2010, By Radimir Bobev

The micro-SIM card is a rather new format which is slowly but steadily gaining popularity, and now AT&T have taken the step to introduce it to their customers as well. The new type of card is, as the name implies, just smaller than the regular SIM cards – though the chip itself is the same size, it’s the plastic around it that’s reduced.

The new cards offered by AT&T are compatible with both devices that use the old-style large SIM cards, as well as ones that require the new micro-SIM format – the card can simply be cut out at two separate points, as you can see in the picture above, allowing you to fit it in the upcoming Apple iPad 3G and the next-gen iPhone which is coming up.

You should already be able to get the new SIM cards at AT&T’s stores, just make sure you check to see if they’ve already received some of the new ones, as apparently distribution is a bit problematic as of currently.
