Cowon D3 Portable Multimedia Player To Run On Android OS; May Inherit D2 Features

April 23, 2010, By Sanjeev Ramachandran

Cowon is bringing on its new D3 portable multimedia player as a replacement for its earlier D2 device. What we find significant in this piece of news is that the new device would run Android Operating System, setting aside Cowon’s own OS.

The Cowon D2 had proved to be such a successful device and so it is likely that the upcoming D3 might inherit a major chunk of its features. From what we get to learn, the D3 portable multimedia player might want to retain the 2.5-inch touchscreen, 8GB of built-in flash storage, SDHC memory card slot  and all that the D2 had boasted of.  It is also expected that the number of files that the D3 will support would include all what the D2 did. They include FLAG, OGG, MP3, and WMA for audio , apart from MPEG-4 and XviD videos.

We are yet to be told as when the Cowon D3 portable multimedia player would arrive for real. We will have to wait a bit more to know what is on the pricing front too.
