HTC Hero Android 2.1 update delayed again ; not coming until June

April 21, 2010, By Thomas Antony

Leaks and “confirmations” have been coming out about the Android 2.1 update for HTC Hero since last October. The latest news was pointing to a release in April, and now HTC has announced that the update has been pushed back to June.

The HTC Hero, which still runs on the Android 1.5 operating system, was supposed to get Android 2.1 sometime in February or March. Then HTC suggested April 4th as a possible date, which was later pushed back to April 16th. All those who were waiting to try out Google Maps Navigation on their HTC Heros will now have to wait till June, when HTC is supposed to roll out the update.

The news about the delay, originally from a member of a Google team member, was later confirmed by a statement from HTC that said “HTC will be providing a free update to Éclair for European HTC Hero variants. Starting in June, anyone owning an HTC Hero will receive an initial preparatory update, shortly followed by the full Éclair update.”
