Lenovo ThinkPad L Series Lightweight Line Unveiled; New L412 and L512 Models Boast of 8 Hours of Battery Life

Lenovo has lifted the wraps off its new ThinkPad range.  The new line comprises the L Series 14-inch L412 and the 15-inch L512, which come promising extra hours of battery life – eight hours to be precise. Presented as devices built with longevity in mind, the 14-inch L412 and the 15-inch L512 also come with US military grade resistance to shock and moisture. Most significant about the new range is that the models are lightweight devices like never before.

When we say lightweight, we really mean the new ThinkPads are light as light could be. The base model that houses a six-cell battery weighs just 5.1 pounds, while the larger one weighs 5.7 pounds. What we like about the new Lenovo line-up is that the devices are made of as much as 30 percent recycled material and 40 percent better power draw than the previous ThinkPad versions.

Powered by 1.86GHz Celeron and Intel graphics to a 2.53GHz Core i5, the new ThinkPad range houses under the hood a dedicated Mobility Radeon HD 5145. Storage is taken care of by the 8GB of RAM, a 320GB hard drive, while on the connectivity front there are the 3G and WiMAX options.

Lenovo has attached price tags as low as $649 for the base model and would move upwards according to the features added into the higher models. The company will start shipments of the models by mid-May.
