Israel Government Banning All iPad Imports

April 15, 2010, By Radimir Bobev

Those of you planning to visit Israel soon, you should probably consider leaving your iPad at home, if you have one. The country has banned import on all iPads, including tourist-owned ones. If they find one on you, you’ll have it confiscated from you and you’ll also have to pay a storage fee.

According to Nati Schubert, spokesperson for Israel, the reason for the decision is that the FCC allows Wi-Fi devices to broadcast at higher levels than what’s standard for Europe and Israel, which could potentially result in an excessive amount of bandwidth usage if too many iPads are operating at once in the country.

Israel have somewhat of a history of banning Apple products like that, the previous one being the iPhone, which was only allowed to be used last December – for the same reasons as in this situation. However, considering that the actual potential damage isn’t that great, maybe they should reconsider – and they probably would, the question is how long it’s going to take.
