iPad Jailbreak Video Makes it Online

April 7, 2010, By Sanjeev Ramachandran

It is just a few days since the Apple iPad hit the stores, and we have reports of a jailbreak! A video doing the rounds on the Web has managed to tell the tech world that the device has been broken into.

Going by the video, we understand how iPhone Dev-Team member MuscleNerd has managed to do that. We are just waiting to know what Apple has to say.

With the hack effectively executed, unsigned apps could make it to the tablet. Look at the video, and you may have your doubts cleared. But then, it is not very clear as to how soon this could be made into an easily automated process.  According to MuscleNerd, the hack exercise is a variant of the ‘Spirit’ iPhone OS 3.1.3 jailbreak, a browser based hack that exploits a bug found in the 3.2 OS. Meanwhile, the jailbreak also exposes the holes in Apple iPad’s armor. It may be seen that the iPhone 3.2 firmware used on the device hasn’t plugged all the security holes that were present in the 3.1.3 code.

Things seem to be interesting, but Apple may not be approving of this. The company might have already kicked off measures against the hack, though nothing has been made public. Let’s wait to see what’s on next.
