Nokia N900’s Cortex A8 600MHz CPU Overclocked to 1GHz

If you think that your Nokia N900 with all its Cortex A8 600 MHz speed is still pretty shy of something like a Snapdragon, you’ll be glad to realize that some recompiled kernels can help you overclock the N900 to 1GHz. Thanks to a bunch of geeks from Maemo forums who managed the feat, clocking the CPU to a maximum of 1,050 MHz and still managing a boot. The forum members however thought that the N900 was most stable at 900MHz.

The modders were honest enough to acknowledge that that increased computing efficiency came with a number of caveats.

The very idea of overclocking your CPU is tempting but then there are a couple of problems involved just in case you didn’t know. One, the overclocking act can potentially void your warrant and two, you will not be able to update the phone directly through the Nokia Software Updater.

Every time a firmware update will flash, you will have to manually flash the firmware to the device. If these problems aren’t a hassle to you, feel free to jump the gun.
