HTC HD2 Running Windows Phone 7 Through Hack, Beta Release Coming Soon

March 29, 2010, By Atul Roach

The HTC HD2 with T-Mobile sold out like hot cakes despite the Windows Mobile 6.5 existence and Sense UI is being touted as the biggest reason for its success. It is told that HTC HD2 is not upgradable to Windows Phone 7 as it lacks the required equipment but, a gang of hackers chose to disagree, and they have indeed managed to run WP7 on the smartphone. They have been so successful that abilities like WiFi, Bluetooth and GPS have all been cracked.

Windows Mobile 6.5 is the only real problem with the smartphone and if such a hack is possible, the HTC HD2 owners will all be ready do acknowledge it on their devices.

The hack gains more relevance as no official word has come through from Microsoft regarding a future OS update for the HTC HD2. The only complication for the Russian hackers is that they are struggling with the graphics driver and hence there is a device lag as well.

Nonetheless, they want to cash in on their early success and hence a beta release will soon be on its way. If you guys are in the mood to be really patient, you might just get official WP7 version on the HTC HD3!
