Untethered Jailbreak for iPhone 3GS & iPod Touch by GeoHot; Supposedly Works For iPad, Too

March 26, 2010, By Alex Ion

iPhone hacker GeoHot has announced a new untethered jailbreak for the iPhone 3GS and the iPod Touch. Supposedly working for the iPad, too, the jailbreak is software based, is just as easy to use as blackra1n (which means that everyone will be able to do it), and is completely untethered.

What does that mean? From now on you won’t have to plug your iPhone to your computer whenever you need to reset it or when the battery discharges completely — as many of you know it’s not fun to do that every now and then, when you least expect it.

George Hotz found a way to crack Apple’s latest iPhone OS-powered hardware and videoed it for us, but while we’re all excited about the hack, he said “Don’t ask about a release date. You won’t make it happen any sooner.”

Should we take it that there are still minor tweaks to be made to the application? Probably!

So ladies and gents, all we can do is wait for that untethered iPhone jailbreak to be available.
