March 25, 2010, By Thomas Antony

After a couple of months of rumors and leaks, the Motorola Devour has now officially gone on sale on Verizon. The smartphone will be sold online as well as through Verizon’s shops as a more affordable alternative to the Droid. The Devour has a rather unusual Sidekick-style slide-out keyboard along with an optical trackpad.

The Motorola Devour will run on Android 1.5 enhanced with Motorola’s MOTOBLUR UI and will be priced at $150 on a two-year contract after a $100 rebate.

The smartphone comes with a 3.1 inch 480×320 touchscreen and a 3-megapixel camera as opposed to the bigger 3.7” screen and  5MP camera on Droid. Social networking integration is a key part of the phone due to the MOTOBLUR interface and everything from Contacts to Messages are integrate with data from the major social networking websites.  Verizon’s model comes with an 8GB microSDHC card for storage.

The Motorola Devour is kind of a little brother to the Droid on Verizon’s line-up of Android smartphones. Verizon is also pushing the availability of Skype Mobile on Android for free Skype-To-Skype calls over the data connection as one of the major selling points.
