HP EliteBook 8740w Notebook Brings Cutting Edge Features, Specs

March 24, 2010, By Alex Ion

HP have added to their EliteBook notebook series with the new 17-inch HP EliteBook 8740w. Seen as the company’s flagship mobile workstation, the EliteBook 8740w comes with a sleek magnesium-alloy chassis and weighs in at a good 7.8 pound (pretty hard carrying it around all day), but the real deal is under the hood as it can be configured with a choice of 2010 Intel Core i5 or i7 CPUs, along with either ATI ‘s newest FirePro M7820 or a 1GB NVIDIA Quadro FX graphic cards.

Targeted toward users who demand amazing power from their rig, this EliteBook 8740w tops with a 1.73GHz 820QM processor, can throw in up to 16GB of RAM (WOW), and comes with a wide range of 7,200 rpm hard drives to choose from. But one of the most interesting feature is that 17-inch 1920 x 1080 HP DreamColor LED-backlit display.

On top of that we’re hearing the EliteBook 8740w packs two USB 3.0 ports, eSATA, VGA, RJ45, Firewire, has only a DisplayPort jack and curiously, no HDMI port (bugger).

Of course all these goodies come in at a price, and that’s the part you may not like, as the standard version goes North of $1,999 with the top of the line priced around $3,899.

Does that sound like your next powerhouse notebook?
